Prophecies, and their respective prophets, play a huge role in A Song of Ice and Fire. The songs on this mix represent several of those prophets (I know, I know, I left out a few, but making mixes is harder than it looks).

01. Bright Eyes, “Don’t Know When but a Day’s Gonna Come” - General Prophecies
They say they don’t when but a day’s gonna come / When there won’t be a moon and there won’t be a sun / It will just go black, it will just go black / To the way it was before

02. Bon Iver, “The Wolves (Act I and II)” - Stark Wolf Dreams
Someday my pain, someday my pain / Will mark you / Harness your blame, harness your blame / And walk though

03. Great Lake Swimmers, “Hands in Dirty Ground” - Bran Stark
Leaves like instruments / Dig down / Digging long enough to find peace

04. The Decemberists, “Rise to Me” - Mirri Maz Duur
They sing out, I am gonna stand my ground / You rise to me and I’ll blow you down / I am gonna stand my ground / You rise to me and I’ll blow you down

05. Mumford & Sons, “Lover of the Light” - Melisandre
I have done wrong, so build your tower / But call me home, and I will build you a throne

06. Björk, “Anchor Song” - The Damphair
I live by the ocean and during the night / I dive into it, down to the bottom / Underneath all currents, and drop my anchor / This is where I’m staying, this is my home

07. Dry the River, “History Book” - Jojen Reed
As heavy as a history book can be, / I will carry it with me, oh Lord / And maybe when the bitterness has gone / There’ll be sweetness on our tongues once more

08. The Doors, “Light My Fire” - Melisandre
The time to hesitate is through / No time to wallow in the mire / Try now, we can only lose / And our love became a funeral pyre

09. The Mountain Goats, “Hast Thou Considered the Tetrapod” - Patchface
Held under these smoldering waves / By your strong and thick veined hand, / But one of these days, I’m gonna wriggle up on dry land

10. Bright Eyes, “Oh, You Are The Roots That Sleep Beneath My Feet and Hold the Earth in Place” - Bran Stark
Oh, you are the roots that sleep beneath my feet and hold the earth in place / Each time a curtain opens, sunlight pours in, a lifetime melts away / And we share a name on a picturesque grave

11. The Mountain Goats, “Up the Wolves” - Stark Wolf Dreams
No matter where you live / There’ll always be a few things / (Maybe several things) / That you’re gonna find really difficult to forgive

12. Alexi Murdoch - “Orange Sky” - General Prophecies
Well I had a dream / I stood beneath an orange sky / Yes, I had a dream / I stood beneath an orange sky / With my brother and sister standing by
